Movie Project: PhotoShop

My final project for my Photoshop class required me to devise a movie premise and design a Poster and advertisements based on the premise. I was inspired by western cinema for this project, so I based my movie accordingly.

“In 1885, the cows and horses of a small county in Texas fell victim to an unknown creature.  Each morning, more livestock is found lying in a dried-up pool of its blood.  One curious rancher named Wesley feels something more sinister is behind the attacks than your average predator, and takes it upon himself to discover exactly what. His investigations introduce him to an Irish navvy, James, who offers to help expand his hunt. Wesley and James form a fast connection due to James’s desire to feel seen and Wesley’s good-natured people skills. Little does Wesley know the town will suffer from because of their alliance. Distrust brews in the county, the railroad operation is shut down indefinitely, and people start to go missing.  When the body of a beloved man found in pieces in Jame’s tent, the county calls for blood. Wesley must decide to trust the account of his new friend or protect the safety of the townspeople he has known his whole life.”

Keeping this premise in mind, and after looking at other western movie poster designs, I utilized elements in my poster that felt necessary. Most other western movie posters use a sepia or an orange coloring in their design, so I made sure to implement that in mine. Since a train is a key part to the movie, I featured a steam engine on the cover design, as well as a cowboy so the theme is clear. Western’s are also associated with slab typefaces, so I used one for the title of my movie. Lastly, I named the movie “The Iron Horse” because the train is an important factor to the plot.
